For a cloudy-chilly-not quite spring-morning, this mosquito infested park is a decent hide out from the city around it. I highly recommend bug spray no matter what time of year. With our crazy Houston weather, some of the plants are in partial bloom, just enough to give you a glimpse of its full beautiful intentions come Spring. In the meantime, most of the plants are dead or still dormant. The gravel and mulched trail weave and wind throughout the park, leaving behind most of the city noises. In some parts of the trail you can hear nearby traffic and trains; but for the most part you can enjoy the wonderful sounds of nature. I suggest keeping your eyes open and being aware of your surroundings. Lots of smaller animals and birds can be spotted; although I did not see any snakes, I will keep my eyes on the lookout. My 2 favorite things were - the R.A. Vines Trail and the wood decks that were placed in wetter terrain so my feet didn't have to get wet. After a couple times around the outer loop and several twist and turns to incorporate the inner loop and all the trails in between, I walked out of the park at 7.88 miles.
